Default The forum where people ask questions, get answers and then

never return with a follow-up so we know the answers worked for them.

Im still around to check on things a few times a month. I've been toying with the idea of letting Betsy go but want to make sure she goes to someone who appreciates the urS-cars and the Audi brand in general. So tough to screen potential new owners... sigh...

I think I just solved a non-start problem on another UrS forum where the problem is likely a dead short in one of the 12V lines to the coils. Wires get brittle with age and the insulation spalls off, resulting in bare wires that arc to the head/cam cover, tripping the S64 thermal fuse (in an UrS4 at least). He tried the thermal fuse in another UrS and it was fine. But he forgot to put a spade fuse in his car, assuming that the thermal fuse was good. When he finally put a spade fuse in, in place of the thermal fuse, the spade fuse failed immediately, pointing to the dead short problem.

The issue is just common courtesy when you ask for help and someone provides it, to acknowledge it and provide some feedback for other readers to know whether the suggestion fixed your problem.

Since you find being an ******* so cute, I wouldn't expect much in the future.

Default 'drifting' a quattro on dirt

My son tried this with the urS4 I gave him (no, I still have mine rs2'd). now it easily goes into every gear even without the clutch in but will not move under power. Did this break the trans input shaft, clutch, or some other drivetrain component? How would I determine what is broken? I was thinking about four jackstands and see what wheel movements were tied to each other. Any help will be appreciated. thanks, jan

I believe a quick inspection will find a broken C/V joint on one of the axles. Since it is most likely the outer C/V joint in the front that has broken you should easily see the axle turn but not the wheel. With this failure, no power is transmitted to the other wheels.

A 1971 Chevrolet S10 pickup sounds like a better vehicle fit for your son. He needs to learn to fix them before he learns to break them. : > )
