Default A3 idling problem

I'm having a problem when I start my a3 and wanted to see if anyone has had a similar issue before taking it to the dealer. When I start the car it idles normally for a second then the rpm drop in chunks of about 100 until it just dies around 600. I can start backing out and have to rev it to try and get it going. Each progressive restart gets harder and harder with more sputtering but once I start going there's no problem. Any ideas? I still have about 200 miles to drive before I get home and to the dealer

Its 2.0T 6 speed manual with 51,000 mi on it

I cannot say that i had that issue exactly the same, but something similar. To trouble shoot the problem, try to disconnect the MAF (mass air flow sensor) located right after the air filter. start the car and see if that solves it. if that is the case, you can order the sensor online or in-store. Also, try to check the engine even if there is no light.

good luck.
