Have you checked to see if the cold start valve is squirting fuel during start/warmup? You can place it in a clear jar to see if it's working.
What about vacuum leaks in general? I'd do a smoke test, either with a machine or blown from a cheap cigar from the gas station. That's the easiest way to tell if it's leaking anywhere. -Rog |

Roger nailed it for you, the only thing which stops these cars running when cold is the cold start valve, its on top of the air intake manifold on the right hand side when facing the engine ( almost impossible to get started without the cold start valve working) . I take it that you can hear the fuel pump kick in for a few seconds when you turn the key, the fuel pump gets it signal from the coil ( and the connections on the coil are crappy if you do not have the screw on type ( spade connectors don't work correctly).
if the valve is working correctly you can do what the PO did on mine coupe, connect the cold start valve power wire to the starter solenoid, that way when you start the car you will get the extra gas needed to get her to start....... After working on my Audi I think I have seen about every hotch botch Band-Aid there is to be had...

Damn maybe it is something with the cold start injector. It seems to be running way way rich when its happening, rather than lean. i will check it out
