Default Timing Belt Replacement

I'm looking to buy a '05 A4 1.8T, been in touch with the dealer who said they car is excellent but they are replacing the timing belt not because of the miles (51k) but because it is a 2005, does this make sense? I thought that timing belts were supposed to be replaced at a certain mileage not age. Is there any other reason they may be replacing it?

Well you can imagine rubber degrades with time as well as usage. So yes, the typical interval is 6 years 100k miles.
