no stupid ?'s just some answers. I've got an allroad with the 2.7t @135k and loved it till the tranny failed. motor and turbos are strong and do not leak. I got "lucky" with the PO. they babied this car and serviced it religiously. the turbos on the 2.7t's will weep over time, unless thrashed, then they will cry..oil.
just watch for the leaks. A lot of the time a leak can come from the valve cover gaskets, cam plugs, or the oil return lines from turbos. These are what I like to call "quality selling points" |

No. its just that the 2.7t motor page doesnt get many views. Post this on the a6 c5 or s4 page or over at audizine and you would have gotten more.
But 1st listen to the car. listen for unusual whines. listen to the turbo whistle and make sure nothing unsual is present. make sure the owner used fully synthetic oil at all times if no leave it. these motors also leak oil from the vavle covers and cam adjusters. make sure the car has been serviced tranny and engine wise. |

Is the Turbo in the 1.8t any easier to get to than the 2.7t?
I would factor serviceability into your decision. The 2.7t Turbos are pretty hard to get at if you want to replace or upgrade them to KO4s from what I have heard. Bought my 2.7t at 139k. It is burning oil and has had the Valve cover gasket and Cam Tensioner seal replaced. Have not done the CAM caps or had the Turbo return lines replaced yet. Those are next on the list to try and figure out why my car smells like oil after a drive. Right now I'm hoping that it is something other than my Turbos. As for performance....I find that my allroad is pretty heavy off the starting line with the 2.7t but once I get going I can get up to 90 without really even thinking about it....other than the fact that I'm passing everyone =p This is my fav. part about driving this car...quiet power. |
