I solved my linking problem by replacing the Sirius module with an XM module. I bought a used XM module only because it was less costly than the Sirius modules advertised and SiriusXm credited the balance of my Sirius account to the new XM account. XM is essentially the same as Sirius with many of the same channel numbers, plus it has additional channels that were not available on Sirius. There has been no more linking problems.
For an A8, the module must have the fiber optic (MOST) connector and one or two antenna inputs. My 05 has two antenna inputs, Satellite and Terrestrial. Audi changed from two inputs to one sometime in the 07 model year. Be sure to check you installation to see which one you need. By the way, I have a single input Sirius with MOST if anybody can use it.
