Default Where do you get tires changed when you buy tires online?

Was going to order some new tires online, and was wondering who you trust to change and balance your new tires?

Dealer? Others? What's approximate cost?

You can check Tirerack for their recommended installers. Their website searchable by zip code gives exact cost of tire installation. You can also drop ship the tires to your shop of choice to avoid having to transport tires in your car.

OK, see the list you're referencing on Tire Rack.

Know if there Road Hazard program a good value? Seems like a bit of process, to get authorized, order new tire, etc in the event you did have a replacement tire claim.

Yeah, that's what we've been doing. However, I would go to the shop PRIOR to purchasing anything and get a firm quote on the job. Some shops are REALLY porking people that carry in their own parts/tires...even if they appear on TR's "approved list". And you need to figure out if they can perform the task without damaging your wheels

FWIW, some of these guys will come close to Tire Rack's pricing when their feet are put in the fire You just need to ask. Sometimes you will be better off letting the local shop handle everything.

I just bought my wife a winter tire package from Tire Rack and the tires came balanced and mounted on the new rims and the dealership charged us $40 to put the new ones on.

The last time I ordered tires from TR, the nearest "approved installer" scraped the paint off the edges of two of my wheels when removing the old tires and smeared grease on my white headliner and light gray seats. Thankfully, the damage on the wheels is only noticeable up close and I was able to clean my interior after two hours of hard labor, but next time I will be going to my dealer, regardless of price.

The OP has a good question! Both Tire Rack and Wheel Enhancement mounted and delivered great sets to me, but who do you trust on a local basis?

I checked around for a long time to find a shop that was kind of fanatic. I used to change tires when I was a kit, so I know the equipment can vary a lot. Here is the description they gave me of their equipment. I liked the fact that the tools were mostly plastic tipped:

"We use a Hoffmann 1550 tire machine. Here's the main difference - we use
resin duckbills vs metal ones and we also use plastic lined tire irons. Even
the clamping arms have plastic protectors"

I used one of Tire Rack's "Recommended Installers" last year and they scratched two of my BBS wheels. After complaining, the tire shop had my wheels refinished. This year I ordered another set of tires and had them shipped to the same shop. THe guy didn't remember me but this time I said lets go out and inspect my wheels prior to you mounting the new tires, just to be sure that there is no existing damage. He then refused to mount my tires. When I complained to Tire Rack they said it was my responsibility to find a place that would mount my tires!

The reason I bought from Tire Rack was because they had "Recommended Installers' and it would be faster than me wasting time at a tire store. We got into a very heated discussion and my contention that the main reason I even considered Tire Rack was the fact they had installers which they recommended! Quite an organization to recommend a shop that couldn't mount a tire without damaging a wheel!

Tire rack is high on the promise but low on the delivery! I would not recommend them to anyone! Their customer service was horrible!
