"Throaty, Tractor-Like" Sound when Cold Starting

Hey Everyone -

I've owned my 02 A4 3.0Q for almost 2 years now and find that when i start the car first thing in the morning, theres a weird sound for about 2-3 secs that sounds like what I've heard called "throughty, gurglely, and tractor-like" then it calms down and drives great. Never thought anything about it since Audi told me it was normal...

My neighbor just recently purchased a 03 3.0 which has the same sound and now the question is back.. what could cause this? The car is in the shop right now as we speak for the full TB, but not sure if that will take care of anything. I have no misfires and the plugs are all 3k old.

Anyone else with this problem?

does the 3.0 have the same type hydraulic cam chain tensioner as 2.8? if so before oil pressure builds and takes up the tensioner slack in the chain you may be hearing that chain rattle as your tapping sound. in which case new seals would help.
