By the way I have been using 5W-30 oil in it since forever. Should I try a heavier oil with this many miles? Is so what should I use?

You may want to stop driving it. 1.8T and 3.0 cars seem to have an issue where the oil pickup tube will become blocked. Will start with the red oil light occasionally, especially when hot or drivin awhile. You need to drop the lower oil pan (easy as hell) remove the oil pickup and inspect and clean it, or replace it. You WILL destroy the engine soon if you ignore it. I have seen and repaired several of these engines with this exact issue. So address it quickly
