Default 2004 Audi A6 2.7T Quattro S Line Part 2: Opions/Decisions

Hey guys, I got so much great info in my last thread here:

https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho....php?t=2802409

I didn't want to continue on with a new set of questions. I will link them both to show a path for other newcomers like myself.

I got a LOT of awesome answers from you guys today, and for that I thank you very much. I also got a lot of quotes today from other local shops that do the Timing Belt and Water Pump service. I am having a local independ do the service as soon as I order the parts and they should get it done in a day for just under a grand.

Now on to the decisions section...I did a LOT of research here yesterday (and other forums as well) so I feel I have a pretty educated guess on the route I will take, but I will give a couple of examples and my reasoning. Here goes:

I was told the shop uses OEM parts and what brand that sounded like "Continental" or "Conti", does this sound familiar to anyone? I was and still can going to provide the rebuild kit because it was "better" and cheaper from here Blauparts, either: http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail....od=GH21113%2DA
or http://www.blauparts.com/products.asp?cat=2326 any preference?

I will be going with this APR tune on sale now @ a dealer near you: http://www.goapr.com/products/ecu_upgrade_a627t.html

I read many threads new and old about replacing the DV's and which to use. I feel since I will never go past a Stage 1+, these should fit the bill: http://shop.achtuning.com/bosch-moto...ter-valve.aspx and these are a bit overkill for my intentions/application: http://www.goapr.com/products/r1.html

Now on to another hotly debated topic, the Bi-Pipe. In the same threads the consensus seems to be a bit split, if not a bit biased towards a new/upgraded TBB. If only for cost savings, I would LIKE to go with this new part: http://www.avalonmotorsports.com/ind...roducts_id=170 and not http://www.goapr.com/products/bipipe.html or http://www.ardesign.org/product.sc?c...=4&productId=3

And from what I've read, these are a waste of time/money and I should "modify" my air box or preferably leave it alone (no offense to anyone who has one of these): http://www.evoms.com/marketplace/Vie...C7A088B8849%7D

Remember, the point of these "upgrades" is to have a quick AND dependable daily driver. The most I will ever do is possibly some Vast Piggies or maybe a few other "simple" mods. Thanks again for all of your help/input. I hope to get as many responses as possible tonight so I can order the parts first thing in the morning.

dude this says it all.... 710n is faster then the forged... only thing forged offers is its bullet proof and last forever if you take care of it.... vs the 710n that will last around 60-110k on a stage 3 motorr... your call, but 300 on DVs is a waste on a chipped car imho

Great article 2.7Lturbo, thanks for sharing. If I ran across that I woudn't even have posted the link to the APR DV's...I thought it was pretty much a no brainer before, but now its official.

Does anyone else have any feelings on the TBB vs the bi-pipe?

haha again get a silicon pipe... the bi-pipe is kind of a rip, the diameter of the pipes is not increased enough to make ti worth it, a nice silicon tbb wont rip.

Thanks again 2.7Lturbo.

I ordered the Bosch DV's from Achtung by phone from a guy named Damon who was super helpful. He made sure that he got me the internet price ($2 off each) and the free shipping as well. To take it a step further he sent them USPS so they would go out today and I would get them by Saturday. I enquired about one of their Auchtung brand TBB's and he said he can get me 10% off, but that was still around $140 with free shipping. I told him what I could get them for @ another site and he told me to get them because it was a good deal and a good brand. I love honesty...

I also ordered the TBB from Avalon Motor Sports by phone as well and also encountered a super helpful person. They got me the the TBB by Samco and also go them sent out via USPS so they would be delivered by Saturday as well. Very helpful.

I have my appointment to get everything serviced on Monday of next week and hope to get my tune shortly thereafter. Thanks again for all of the help and I plan on documenting the results (it will be dyno'd before and after).

no worries man, youll be happy, the only problem with the stock DV is they cant hold the higher boost... bosche fixed that in the 710n's.... and if they last 100k then they are totaly worth it vs 300 for the forged ones, especially if you sell the car before then.... another nice feature is if these DVs break they make that horrible honking noise so you know to replce... that vs the forged ones that when they break they make no noise, so you drive around over working your turbos and you are non the wiser

Default Conclusion

To update/conclude this thread for any future searchers, I got my TB/Water Pump service completed last week along with the upgraded Samco TBB and Bosch 710N DV's and headed up north to the APR dealer. The dealer went over everything, answered all of my questions and was super helpful. All of our BS'ing aside, it would have only taken about 30 minutes max.

I test drove the car and got back on the road. The APR chip is a great addition if you ask me. I have to be honest, I haven't tried any other brand but the ability to quickly change tunes by using the cruise control (while in the off position) is a great benefit.

The only issue I encountered so far was my throttle body boot slipping off just a bit due to not being fully tight on install. After hearing the initial "whoosh" of air (see other thread), we got it taken care of. The car pulls a lot stronger and I am very happy with the small upgrades so far.
