Default MPG as calculated by my Q

I hope it is calculating it correctly.. so, here are the numbers for part of my vacation/holiday trip.

From Amsterdam down to the Hook of Holland, The Q had a high average of 29mpg with a final of 28.3mpg. It is a very flat drive with max speed of 60-70kph for most of the trip.

In the UK, from the port of Harwich to London, with a trip thru the heart of London at night, I had a high of 26mpg and an average of 24.5mpg. Still not bad.

Driving in the UK is a challenge but it is made a bit easier by having the Q with the driver on the proper side (left)! After a few days here, it is thru the Chunnel to Paris.

29 MPG is amazing for the Q5, what size engine and which tranny do you have?

UK (Imperial) Gallon is larger than US Gallon, so these figures would be different in US.

Be sure to calculate your consumption manually too, its the most accurate way. I find the actual consumption to be a bit worse than the car's computer.

I own a US spec and I am looking at the onboard computer's calculation. I've not calculated via manual mode as I find that different pumps yield different cutoff points and such and are a variable themselves.

Just the standard US spec. 3.2L with the 6spd auto tranny.

I get about 18 combined city/hwy (actually probably more city than hwy so I think 18 isn't bad). I have a 2010 US model Q5.

I keep meaning to fill up immediately before/after a long highway trip but I never remember. I'm really curious what it gets on pure highway.

My wife drives about 90% city and on short trips too, she is only getting 15.5 MPG.

I've noticed that on short trips especially when the Q is not warmed up, the mileage is low! Going to work is about a ten miles drive with about half on the highway.. there, I average about 20mpg for the trip.

I do usually fill up before a long highway trip... i noticed that the mileage can hang around 20-21mpg at 70-80mph... after that, it really drops. I do love driving 120mph on the various autobahns over here but there is always traffic and there are other legal reasons when driving above 130kph. (100kph=60mph or about that).

My next long trip will be from Calais to just outside of Paris and I'll let you know what goes on then. There are more hills and traffic so i don't expect the great numbers I saw in the Netherlands.
