2001 A6 4.2L Hands Free Cell Phone

Hey Everyone,

I just bought a 2001 A6, 4.2L and I am looking to use the Hands Free cell phone function. It looks like I do not have the audi cellular phone operating manual, does anyone know where I can get it?

Also, Does anyone or has anyone had good luck hooking up a cell phone to the system and have any good tips or suggestions?

I have a connection to the car phone hook up in my arm rest (and I also think in my trunk), is there any equipment out there which will install a bluetooth link to that port?

I looked over the all the bluetooth articles in the tech section but can't seem find one which applies to a 2001 vintage audi. is there a specific article you're thinking of I am overlooking?

...and you won't really be gaining anything.

Plus, your best option is an aftermarket kit ...and I wouldn't recommend trying to use the factory mic for an aftermarket kit. It will sound like crap.

...it was simple to install, and works great! It only cost about $100 off eBay, and will mute the radio when calls are placed/received, as well as provide the sound via the car's speakers. Mine was the Motorola HF850 kit which only pairs one phone, but for another $100 or so, you can get the iHF1000 which pairs up more than one device.

Here is the wiring harness I needed to connect the control box speakers and mute wire to the back of the radio. Wire from the speaker of the kit was simply cut and spliced into the (+) and (-) wires for the connector block. It did not matter which speaker wire was spliced to which wire to the radio. Note the Mute wire has a twist connector, but no wire connected yet (this is attached to the Mute wire from the kit's wire harness)...


Part numbers are:
357 035 447B (10-pin connector block)
000 979 133 (wire connectors, you'll need 3 of these)

You could try to retrofit the Motorola kit's microphone to the OEM location under the dome lamp panel, but I've done that in the past with limited sucess.

I would go with oem Bluetooth,if you have multifunction steering wheel. You will be able to voice dial, and the phonebook will come up in your Cluster display, which you will be able to scroll through with your MFSW, and answer via the steering wheel controls. It costs more than $100, but function is factory, and is visually unintrusive since all parts are oem. It works great with Syph II radios. If you have a non MFSW, then go with the kit shown, you'll pay 7-8 times that on factory Bluetooth. If your interested email bencover@cox.net
