Default RS5 cooking away

Confirmed by insider at Audi, this is also the engine going into the RS6 - although in a different state of tune (not that we will get the RS6). Looks like the price might be in the mid-$70K range.

"Audi is busy prepping three new versions of its new A5 coupe - headlined by this blistering 450bhp RS5 that arrives early next year to take on its new BMW M3 and Mercedes C63 rivals. Like all R models, the topdog A5 has been fully developed by Quattro, Audi's in-house go-fast engineering team.

As our impressions show, the RS5 will get the full Quattro treatment. The glorious high-revving 4.2-litre V8 that powers the RS4 gets plumbed into the RS5's nose, complete with two small and highly responsive turbochargers that will take peak power up to the 450bhp. That's not a great deal more than the S5's 354bhp, but the RS5 searing pace will come from its phenomenal blower-enhanced torque - expect at least 500lb ft of twist action to plateau across the rev range."

Make sure to click thru all 5 pics, as they have text underneath with more details....

Default Isn't the RS6 getting a twin turbo V10

With about 580 hp. Car says that the RS5 will basically get a more modern version of the old RS6 engine. With what appears to be an artificial 450 hp figure, if it is making 500 lb-ft of torque, it should be making close to 500 hp as well. But that engine would put it above the R8, unless the R8 also gets it or becomes a V10 only.

Default The main issue with the RS6, is getting an awd trans that can deal with the torque. Way more

available.

Last my source heard, marketing wanted the V10, but engineers wanted the turbo V8.

Default This thread makes it seem that its confirmed

Of course, it could be a 5-liter V8. But Audi doesn't have that. 580 hp is awesome though. But of course, nothing official yet. But the RS6 board has had some sucesses in the past.

Default My birdies in Germany have been fairly accurate as well:)

V10 biturbo with 580hp (and more) has been mentioned many times, but QTR GmbH wants the turbo V8 for better handling balance. I think the marketing folks may have won - depending on whom I speak with.

Default Asians seem to love the grille. They buy a lot of Audis. I think we're stuck;-)

Default 450bhp is not a great deal more than 354bhp? We must be getting spoiled by this horsepower war.

Default Well this time they seem to be wrong...

This is from my post in the RS6 part of the forum:

Well, for those that don't believe that the info posted at RS6.com is true... think again.

Here are the PKW-typklassen. Feel free to search for them in any PKW-typklasse search engine.

Also, the new RS6 is getting 571hp, not 580! 579PS = 571hp.

AUDI AG 4F (RS6 5.0) 7967 AAJ 21 N31 N30 579 426 5002
AUDI AG 4F (RS6 AVANT 5.0) 7967 AAK 21 N31 N30 579 426 5002

HSN=Herstellerschlüsselnummer = 7967
TSN=Typschlüsselnummer = AAK/AAJ
KH=Kraftfahrzeughaftpflicht = 21
VKN=Vollkasko (neue Struktur) = N31
TKN=Teilkasko (neue Struktur) = N30
PS=Pferdestärke = 579 = 571hp
KW=Kilowatt = 426 kW
CCM=Kubikzentimeter = 5002 ccm

If you don't know german, use babelfish or whatever.
