This photo reveals is the closest yet in proximity to the forthcoming R8, seen for the first time in silver. The camouflage disguises the shape of the headlights, which actually take the exact shape of the 'Le Mans' concept. The A6-style front hood shut line is fake as well.
![]() Plus, here's an interesting webcam image from the race track.

Having seen the R8 at IAA in person a few years ago, it's intriguing. Will the Audi R8 be based on the Lambo chassis? Gotta be ~ right? That makes the R8 nothing more than a styling exercise? Is Audi USA positioned, in marketing speak, to have an impact at this level of sports car. I dunno, several Le Mans sweeps/wins or no.
Cheers, MS

The R8 is Audi's new venture in the upper end sports car segment. And I believe it will be on the Lambo chassis(?)... also will have the lambo v10 engine... talks on the modified 4.2 v8 is also making rounds as a second engine choice.
I wouldnt call it a styling exercise... but dont have any facts to refute that at the moment, however am sure that there might be articles talking more in detail which will prove it isnt a styling gimmick. As for marketing is concerned, I strongly believe Audi needs to step it up... not only for the R8 but for all models... Audi is so well positioned to break into the big leagues with a new product in practically every line/segment. Audi is getting everything right so far, except for its marketing. I have not seen the marketing move in parallel with the company's vision... It needs to have a specific marketing campaign for North America... the sooner Audi realizes that the sooner it will start seeing prolific gains. They have had a good start with the A3 and Q7 web based campaigns and generated a lot of fanfare. But they need to break the Audi brand to a bigger and also an older audience in the Americas.
