Non-Audi question for German Members regarding death index

All,

Not sure if anyone can help me. Is there an online death index available in Germany as there is here in the US?

I'm trying to find Knut Zitzmann who lived in Berlin back in the 80's. I suspect he has passed away, but am unsure of how I can go about retrieving that information.

Any help is appreciated.

The newspaper Berliner Zeitung also mentioned a Knut Zitzmann in 1996, as the person legally in charge of a company then shutting down its operations. If your Knut was a lawyer or businessman I'd guess the BZ were talking about your guy.
