I finally received the matte finish S4 mirror covers and put them on this Friday. The matte finish looks great in person and it's representation on film doesn't do it justice. IMHO, the chrome finish probably looks best on darker colors (i.e., D-grey, Black, etc).
I listened to a little Zeppelin and Floyd for entertainment...between installation and playing air guitar, the mirror caps were installed within 20+ minutes My inspiration - the RS4 mirrors comes in a matte finish vs the traditional chrome on the S4. A great benefit to having the RS4 on the B7 platform is that the RS4 is so iconic...it's a gift that keeps on giving to most B7'ers. The overall B7 theme/style probably won't fade as quickly thanx to this beast ![]() Finished product - Frontal view ![]() They match the rims well IMO ![]() Gratuitous side shot ![]() I used MB's installation guide for the most part - the only problem is that most of the images are missing, so I supplied a couple for anyone else planning to install these mirrors: The key to removing the mirror is to rotate it so that one corner sticks out more. Just wedge in your fingers and pull firmly...the mirrors are surprisingly thick, so you should feel confident that you won't break them. Slide your fingers behind the mirror as much as possible to prevent any accidents...they'll pop out relatively easily. ![]() Although the directions recommend pulling out the heating and autodimming connections to separate the mirror from the housing, I found that you really don't have to if you're careful enough. IMO the connections are a bit too fragile to mess around with. Just pull the mirror through the painted housing. ![]() Next step is to take out the bottom panel with a phillips head screwdriver ![]() Taking out the bottom panel was the biggest PITA! Just pull on the bottom starting on the lateral edge and work your way to the medial corner ![]() Taking out the painted housing is easier than it looks (B5 image) ![]() Next step - replace the mirror cap (B5 image) ![]() Just snap the mirror back in by pushing in the middle - fair warning...if you have the memmory function, you will need to recalibrate! (B5 image) ![]() Next project - Replace S-line black paddles with S8 shift paddles

I'll be looking forward to that. Nice write up on the mirrors, too.

So I must give credit where it's due. Concerning the shift paddles, my choices are to purchase them OEM from the dealership or wait for parts from a wrecked S8 come into my possession...very unlikely. Either way, can't wait!
