Default I did a little more digging into the seatbelt chime VAG code...

I bought the el cheapo $20 KKL cable & used the free version of VAG-COM 409.1 to check the code in my car to find out once & for all. The results:

Address 17 - Instruments
Value 23301

Explanation (only applies to B7)
--------------------------------
??xx1: Extra Options

+00 - 1. K-Number (Europe, USA, Rest of World)
+01 - Smaller fuel tank volume (AWD)
+02 - Dashboard parking (amber) lights indicator inactive
+04 - 3. K-Number (Rental Cars)
+08 - 2. K-Number (Australia)
+16 - Clutch Pedal Switch Operation in FIS Display

xx?x1: Country-Setting

0 - Germany (D)
1 - Rest of World (RoW)
2 - USA (US)
3 - Canada (CAN)
4 - Great Britain (GB)
5 - Japan (JP)
6 - Saudi Arabia
7 - Australia (AUS)

xxx?1: Seatbelt Warning

0 No Seatbelt Warning
1 Seatbelt Warning Europe-NCAP
2 Seatbelt Warning USA and Canada old - Dashboard indicator and audio chime for 6 seconds at ignition
3 Seatbelt Warning USA and Canada NAR new
4 Seatbelt Warning Europe-NCAP (including passenger seat)
5 Seatbelt Warning USA and Canada old (including passenger seat)
6 Seatbelt Warning USA and Canada NAR new (including passenger seat) - Default B7 settings

So mine was 23 (1+2+4+16) 3 (Canada) 0 (No seatbelt warning) 1 (always 1), not the ?????-2 (which would have given me a 9 at the end).

I've tried changed the seatbelt digit and it works as listed above.

Side-Note
---------
I changed my code to 21351 to:

- Enable the parking (amber) light indicator on my dashboard. Now it comes on when my low beam headlights are on, even in auto mode.

- Enable older style of seatbelt chime to remind my idiot friends to buckle up.

Default Cool. That seatbelt chime is outta hand.

I'm fine with it dinging at start up, but it's a little overly-aggressive beyond that.

Now to find some one in Orange County with a VAG tool to hook me up.

Default Where did you get this $20 cable?

Is this the one that was mentiond before off of eBay?

Sure beats buying the cable from Rosstech which costs a lot more.

Default eBay is your friend. Search for "KKL cable"

And it's about $22 USD + shipping, which works out to about $30 CDN for us Canucks. One of them even ships from Vancouver so no duties.

I'd like to check your code for some comparison next time we meet up.

Default Yep

Not sure why they don't have this on by default as VW does. Go figure.

It's nice to have this especially when the car has been sitting out in the sun for quite a while. Remotely roll the windows down to get rid of that hot air.

Default Found it in eBay, but it says something about NOT compatible with CAN BUS

Does the B7 use a CAN BUS? For some reason I think it is. Not sure.
