My $781 2.1 rig...

Armed with my $800 budget, I went on a hunt yesterday for a decent 2.1 system for my living room that can handle both music and movies. Lucky me, my local hifi shop is having a moving sale and after explaining my criterias to them, they were able to put together the following;

Paradigm Atom V5 monitor (new)
Paradigm PDR-8 sub (new)
Integra 5.3 stereo receiver (open box)
20 feet non-fancy 12 gauge speaker cable
Vantage Point BKSP bookshelf speaker mount (new)

Overall, im very satisfied with the result, its perfect for what I need/want and the price tag made everything much more sweeter. :O)

My first DVD player from 10 years ago, Yamaha S700

so where is that other rig you posted not too long ago that went from modest to ballar in 3.5 seconds? I thought that was the living room.

gf didnt like me invading the reading area and i got tossed out. Its now upstairs in my listening/home office area.

That's less than a Bose 321 system and sounds a lot better.

Despite looking wonderfully civilized, the room in pic #2 looks nowhere near as interesting as it did in pic #1 : )
