Default Palin said the NY Times is "hardly ever wrong."

Between saying that the NY Times is "hardly ever wrong" and the remark during the debate where Palin referred to "predatory lenders" and the need to "stop" the "greed" on Wall Street, I don't know what to make of her. Either the Republicans on this forum are completely out of step with the thinking of party leadership, or their VP candidate is completely out of touch with Republican thinking. LOL.

Default In fairness, Palin's quote about how the NY Times is "hardly ever wrong" was made with pure sarcasm.

Default No, no, those were her exact words,

and Rick parses them exactly as written / transcribed, as we would expect.

Default The quote doesn't read that way.

And it makes no sense that she would sarcastically mock the NYT while simultaneously relying on it as the source for her comments about Obama/Ayers.

Default They were her exact words, yes. You have more context to change their plain meaning?

No, you don't.

Based on your comments, I also don't think you have the faintest idea what "parse" means.

Default I watched her say it. It was PURE sarcasm.

Her point was that the left couldn't just discount that negative report against Sen Obama because they seem to take all the NYT smears against Republicans (and her in particular) as gospel.

It was, actually, one of her more effective jabs of the debate.

Default I haven't been able to find any video of it. (edit)

There is video of a different appearance that day at which she made the same remarks in substance, but the "hardly ever wrong" comment wasn't made there. If you have a link to video of those comments I'd appreciate seeing it. I was under the impression from published reports that it was not covered by television.

In context, it makes no sense that the phrase "hardly ever wrong" was sarcastic, since as I noted before she was citing and relying upon the NYT story as her source. This is why I'd welcome seeing video of it.

"Well, I was reading my copy of today's New York Times and I was interested to read about Barack's friends from Chicago," Ms. Palin said at the fund-raiser in Englewood, Colo. "Turns out one of Barack's earliest supporters is a man who, according to The New York Times, and they are hardly ever wrong, was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol.' Wow."
