Default Repost of my recent Audi parts bin headrest fix

Using off the shelf C6 headrests in rear. I used the A6 because it is the only other Audi with Amaretto interior that I was aware of. Same anchor points/width. From more than a foot or two away, it's a close enough match to look pretty much stock.

The key difference is how it is cut away underneath in the curved shape. That lowers the headrest out of the rearward vision a lot. The height adjustment still works fine. In the pic. I think I have them reversed--height adjustment release button would be on the door side. Given their height, I can also get these in and out in seconds. I have the W12 adjustable four seater where there was enough clearance to just barely squeeze out the original stock ones. A more involved disassembly hassle as I understand it on the normal three across bench.

Default Future mod's notes to self...

1. Call Clair in a month or two after the 2008's parts lists show up on their computers and see if Servotronic relay is new (or the same as S8) and check price.

2. See if they get the digital radio intro'ed in the U.S, and if so whether it is a plug compatible module. Probably need to watch the high volume Audi MMI models to get much info. as guidance.

3. If I have the car some years from now and after I have seen them on the road at night--a rare sighting already--look for taillights on e bay. But then current ones seem fine and nice already.

4. Trivia item--see if they bother to clean up their poorly finished front brake calipers with the pad retainer trim piece like they did on the S8 already. S8 one is logo'ed so it really doesn't fit a W12... If they install it on regular A8's (or W12's), order a set. I painted mine black w/ brake enamel. 50 cent Detroit/VW rust look wasn't cutting it; still doesn't cover some of the rough casting though like the S8 one does.

Jason, thanks for posting this. It's still in Audi Europe PR'ese, but a lot more meat now than their first puff release some weeks back that was long on PR superlatives and short on details.

Default Always clear to those at Audi and now to Euro/U.S buyers that the 08 was to be

tweaked just enough to keep up the interest until the major redo of the 2010. It is also, when you read the China trades, tweaked to Asian buyers (some very pointed observations that I will translate and post soon). One I like is their proud reference to the China -only A6L. I think our market would have absorbed both models but the decision was not to fragment the A8's cache over the 6, as well as the fact that in this country we really don't use the L predominately as a limo/VIP transporter as elsewhere.

Default Although I have had zero problems with my 06 BMW 650i Sport Convertible

I know that they monitor the forum and have responded to those owners with problems not easily solved by dealers. They are very accessible. (Also have had zero problems with my 07 RS4, so can't say anything about AoA customer service.)

Default Well, I still say....

its not the rear headrests that are the problem, its the defective side view mirrors. If those were properly sized and/or placed, as they seem to be in the 2008 models, the lack of rearward vision while moving would be much less of a hassle. Also, those of us with parktronic, I would guess, are rarely glancing back in the rear view mirror in parking situations. Would be nice if AoA allowed a swap of the side views.
