Default Comfort Blinker DIY Instructions

Comfort Blinker install:

You will need:
1 Audi part # 000 953 227A $50
1 relay harness (generic from any auto parts store. I got mine from an old car alarm)
<img src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9dc36b3127ccec636e3dfa0f700000040O08IYsXDdm5ag9 vPgA/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/">
<img src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9dc36b3127ccec6360548a01300000040O08IYsXDdm5ag9 vPgA/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/">
<img src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21S3KR8MKAL._SL500_AA250_.jpg">

1. Remove the top plastic cover of the steering column by removing 2 philips and 1 torx screws from the bottom steering column cover.

<img src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9dc36b3127ccec636e0bb613a00000040O08IYsXDdm5ag9 vPgA/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/">

With it removed it should look like this (the bottom cover will be loose but it wont come off):
<img src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9dc36b3127ccec637b8d5413400000040O08IYsXDdm5ag9 vPgA/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/">

2. Remove the large black plug that holds all the wiring to the turn signal stalk buy pulling it out towards the front of the car.

<img src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9dc36b3127ccec63735f480fb00000040O08IYsXDdm5ag9 vPgA/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/">

3. Now take a good look at your relay. You will see that each silver tab (contact) is numbered. You will connect each tab to the correct wires listed below using your relay harness.
<img src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9dc36b3127ccec6375c5941ca00000040O08IYsXDdm5ag9 vPgA/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/">
<img src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9dc36b3127ccec637be0041e200000040O08IYsXDdm5ag9 vPgA/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/">

4. Runs the following wires to the turn signal plug that you just unplugged:

Relay tab # 2 = left blinker signal(black/white wire pin 3)

Relay tab # 5 = right turn signal(black/green wire pin 11)

Relay tab # 8 = Blinker (black/white/green pin 5)

You can use self taps but the space seems rather tight. I like to solder and black tape.

5. Run the remaining 2 wires under the steering column and above your pedals where you can find a good location for GROUND and 12V ignition power.

Relay tab # 6 = ignition power (I attached it to the 75X in the picture below)

Relay tab # 4 = Ground

6. Zip tie or tape your relay anywhere you like so that it doesn't move.
7. Button everything up.
8. Go to your fridge and crack open a nice cold Guinness.

Default I'll try : ). Going to attempt to order the relay asap then find the connector harness. I

really appreciate your clear wiring comments. Hope its as easy as it sounds...i've lost my fear of screwing with the wiring in this thing after two RNSE installs so looking forward to getting this feature in. Such a simple thing but it really is a physical need for me (limited use of my left hand).

SAF if you do not mind could you email to me where you found someone with the part (after you order it of course).

Just asked Europrice if they can get it all for me too.

Default Guess I'm confused, you say you can get the harness at any auto store, but it looks very specific..

Could you clearify on this one? I've never seen a connection like what you had.

Thanks for the write up! This mod is next on my list!

Default It's a typical relay harness. It's usually sold with a relay together.

I didn't find it at an auto parts store, like I said I took it off a old car alarm lying around. I've seen them before. They usually come with aftermarket foglight kits and etc.

**EDIT** Here. I found one on amazon for $1.20 It's called a RELAY SOCKET
<img src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21S3KR8MKAL._SL500_AA250_.jpg">

If you can't find that generic relay plug, Audi does sell it AND it will allow you to insert it right into one of the empty relay holes under your dash. It'll make it look really OEM. You can go this route if you like. Just ask for the relay plug when you're buying the relay. You should ask the dealer to attach the wires to the plug as well, as most of us probably don't have the tools to insert the wires into the plug.

Another option is to use spade connectors and just connect them to the tabs on the relay.

Default I am hearing that the VW part/kit (includes the harness) is the exact same thing and

should work...in the original post below Daveykid correctly identified the VW part # as 000998229A

I am going to a parts department Monday to see if I can pick it up as my parts source said it worked fine on an S4.

Default Can you post the link were you found that...i can't find it by the part number, the link is only

to the image and not the actual kit location. But that should be all you need as that is the right part number etc.
