Default Control arm recall details anyone?

First, I've already searched half an hour.
Now that that's out of the way, does anyone have a link to the official details for the control arm recall on B5s?
Both of my front lower rear control arms are shot. My car is a 99.5 with 150,000 miles on it. I know it's a long shot, but worth asking about.
TIA

Default the 4d0-407-151-P arms are the JE service action

the 8e0-407-694-K and 693-K are not...

Default Here's the quick and dirty.

Make an appointment to have your arms checked. They might replace them, they might not--depends on the condition. If they do replace them, they have the right to ask for all maintenance records, and if you can't provide--they can deny the free replacement. [Yes, we all realize this maintenance records deal is the biggest crock o' ****...buuut...their rules] I also get the feeling that if you've got a non-stock suspension, they might be able to turn you away as well.

YMMV, depending on the dealer. Some have reported replacement, without having to show maintenance records. Others have been turned away without maintenance records. It really just depends on your dealer and how much of a hard time they feel like giving you.

That said, I have not yet gone to have mine checked. I just assume wait until the last month. Otherwise, if I have them checked now and they're "OK"...but then they "go bad" 3 months from now--guess what--I'm out of pocket.

Good luck

Andy

Default So basically there is no official statement saying what they will or will not replace?

Thanks for the response, Andy. Can you clarify what you wrote?

Is there a time or milage limit on this? I'm not sure I understand.
Thanks again.

Default Phil, what, if any is the time limit for replacement on these?

I only have 55k on my car and want to wait as long as possible if there is a limitation

Default My understanding was that it only pertained to high-mileage vehicles

They check for cracking of the boots on the control arms. If the boot is cracked, then the arm can wear out prematurely. Since I was at 128k miles, it was worth checking. If I were at 55k miles, I suspect my dealer would say "there's little to no chance that they will replace them".

Of course you can get them checked for free so you might as well.

Default Right, it just depends on the condition of your arms as determined by the dealer.

There is an official notice that has been mailed to everyone affected. And to clarify, the JE service action will effectively "end" in March of 2006. So, I'll just wait a bit longer...
