Default "No response from controller"

I'm using the serial port on a Dell Latitude laptop. The test seems to work, but I can't actually do anything. I'm getting "NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROLLER" whenever I try to select a control module.

Anyone know how to fix this?

BTW, I'm trying to use this with my 2001 A6 2.7T Quatro.

Thanks in advance!

Default Details needed:

What brand and model of hardware are you using? What version of VAG-COM. What exactly shows up when you Test on the Options screen?

Default Re: Details needed:

VAG COM 409-1 (though I did try an earlier version as well to no avail). The test results are for Com 3:

Port status: OK
Interface: found!
Type: Serial/Pass through
Opto/Iso: Yes
Ross-Tech Design: No

The cable is just a third-party cable that a friend is no longer using (he swears it worked on his VW). Once I get this working I'm going to buy the software and probably the kit as well.

THANKS!!

Default Are you using an USB/serial converter? Which control modules did you try?

No...I'm using the serial port that's built in to my laptop. I've tried the auto-scan feature as well as the individual modules for engine, transmission, locks, and radio...all have the same problem. VAG-COM makes 4 attempts and then reports "NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROLLER."

Default The download page of Ross-Tech say "If you're using an older SERIAL Interface based on Opto-Couplers

You'll need to use Release 311.2".

Default Just download and install 311.2. It should overwrite 409.1.
