Default Hawk Brake Pad Update!

As most of you know, Hawk pads for the S4 came with the wrong clip. This required you to zip tie your caliper spring or use the method in my sig to modify the pads to use the proper clip. Or ECS was modifying them the same way I was and you could buy from them already done.

The Hawk part number that was used for the S4 was the same as the A6 since they share the same size and shape. But unfortunately, the wrong clip.

Example of bad clip on the left that Hawk came with, correct OEM clip on the right.

Many places were selling the following part numbers as the S4 fitment. Including TireRack where I originally bought my first set of Hawk pads. Tire Rack have since pulled the Hawk pads from the S4 application. But other places still have these listed.

Part numbers include:
Front HPS HB515F.760
Front HP+ HB515N.760

I contacted Hawk and asked them if they had any intention to update the application list and to correct the pads with the proper clip. They responded saying they wanted to correct this and had a pad that was very similar in size (off by thousands on the backing plate, big deal that looked like it had the proper clip. So they were going to send me out a set to try.

Well... they work! I installed and bed them in today and drove on them around town with no issues.

So we now have updated part numbers!!

I've been in contact with Hawk and they will be updating their application list to include the S4. Which means vendors will probably be selling the older part numbers for a while until that's changed.

New Hawk part numbers:
HB538F.760 HPS (includes wear sensors)
HB538N.760 HP + (no wear sensors)

New part number Hawk HPS with wear sensors and proper clips.

Default That same part number? HB538?

Who tipped you off that it would work? It's not listed as an application for the S4 and no one sells them as such...

Default how's the noise level on the HP+ for daily driving/wknd track use?

i toasted my front rotors out at PIR this weekend, this a month after i roasted my rears lol

need a more track oriented pad that can double for weekend track duty

i dont mind a little squeek, dont want something annoyingly loud though

for reference on my acceptable noise levels...i used to have a fullback non-res milltek that i loved

Default Not sure the p/n anymore tossed the box, i got mine from ecstuning same with the S4 Bridge clips...

I did the HAWK HPS pads all around, painted the calipers, and mounted my spacers and wheels, and the S4 clips just snapped right in and the pads had the OEM mounting clip.

edit reread ur post and i believe they are the ones modified by ecs

Default The noise isn't too bad, but I don't drive on the street with them.

It's very fast to swap them out, so I only put the Plus pads in for the track.
