Default 0W-40 is the 503.1 approved oil....

thats what they should be putting in this engine. Its designed for high performance european cars. And should be fine in most climates.

Default Should be fine. In Ca, a 5w-40 might be a better mix for ya, but I wouldn't argue with free...

0w-40! It's an approved oil anyway and carries the certs.

OR, you could go for the best. :-D I just received 20L yesterday...man is this stuff awesome. And it carries the 503.01 cert.

Default What, motul?

Just because it's not on the chart doesn't mean that it's not an applicable oil for our cars. Besides, most of the oils that are on the chart are not avail. in the US.

Motul 8100 Ester-tech 0w-40 is a 500-505 and 503.01 cert oil. It's ester-based, which is arguably the best form of synthetic oil. Jet Jockey is going to be using their racing oil for the summer and possibly going with 8100 for the fall/winter use.

It's perfect for me. It's a bit on the expensive side, but heh, I didn't buy this car because I'm cheap. It's got great stats and characteristic, and once you put some on your hand and feel the difference it really is amazing. I never thought you could tell the difference between two oils, but you can! A tech at my last oil change let me feel Mobil 1 0w-40 (which I was putting in my car) and some of his Amsoil. The Amsoil was just so much better in feel.

It's really a matter of preference. But, Jon, don't think that if it's not on the "approved" list that's it not good. It's just a chart to get you started. As long as it has the proper certs, and you get the correct weight, you should be good to go!

Default After I posted I...

went off and looked over all the past threads and found that the 0w-40 does carry the 503.1. Hmm no after I spend 2 hours trying to find enough bottles of 0w-40 Mobil 1 i am thinking I might have to place an order. It was going to cost me 125 dollars for enough mobil 1 to cover 2 oil changes and some for inbetween. I dont think Jet would put it in his car if he didnt think it was the best. So motorspot.com eh?

Default That's where I ordered it from before, but my buddy has a distributor license and can get it...

a bit cheaper then from motorsport. I just paid 175 shipped for 20L (about 2 oil changes). A bit more then Mobil 1, but it's worth it. And I'm sure it would cost less since I did not get the distributor discount due to his initial buy-in, which I was a part of.

If your interested, I can get in touch with him and see when his next order is and how much.
