Default Bad vibration at slow speed (~30km/h), and I know why...

Just look at this:

I didn't hear a pop, didn't go over pot hole, but all of a sudden, going at 120km/h I started feeling instability. 30 seconds later I was on a bridge without any shoulders in heavy traffic. Longest 2km in my life! By the time I could finally stop after really tying up traffic, I had to turn the wheel 45 degrees to keep the car straight, vibration was extreme, that tire was burning hot and I count myself lucky to have not lost control (I'd imagine another few hundred meters and I'd have completely lost the tread). Now I'm nervously waiting for next week to find out if my wheel is bent; hope not :T

Default I suspect you got a flat first, and then given the need to drive on, that's what ripped the sidewall

hope the wheel is okay.

Default Yeah, that's what I suspect too, except I find no nail on the tread...

Which leaves me to think that something sliced at the sidewall and gave me the flat.

Default glad to know you're ok! so you're saying a rip started the vibration and then finally gave away tod?

Default Essentially. Some sort of possibly small puncture/gash/rip got the whole thing started.

Bye bye CAD$300 or so, assuming the wheel's not bent.

Default I guess you are quite lucky that didn't happen on your way to Squamish Wednesday.

My biggest fear is such an event but when you are ripping along a lot fater than 120kph.

I hope all you need is a wheel to get going again.

Default Yeah, I was nervous, especially since I've got my mom, gf and sister in the car when that happened.

And indeed! It would've been extremely bad news on the Sea-to-Sky, at night, when there's construction on that 2 lane road!

Default Does your spare have the same tire? Or is it different?

My spare has a Pirelli on it so I can't use it for anything but a spare.

Default It's just a spare: it's Dunlop SP9090 235/45-17, rotating backwards right now.
