Default Embarrasing-revelation on my Engine Carbon Build-up...too much use of high octane additives?.....

So over lunchtime...my co-workers and I we're just discussing about cars. So I brought up my A4's recent fouled plugs and coilpack failures. I mentioned to them that I'm surprised this happened since I often treat my engine with different Octane booster additives almost once every other fill up just to give it some extra ooomph. .......They all went Ahaaa!!!.

My gearhead co-worker (he owns a restored Nova and Vette) lectured to me that them Octane booster additives often adds more carbon to the engine which causes fouled up plugs & burnt looking combustion chambers.... He said I've been throwing money away all these years adding that sh*t on my fuel tank while at the same time fouling up my CAT and possibly enhancing dangerous detonantion. He also jokingly tells me to forget tinkering with tiny 4bangers and get a real (V8) car next time...*sigh*

Default High octave additives (i.e Toulene? or i.e. STP Octane Booster-type?)

Default increasing octane increases EGT temps

running 10-30% toluene or up to 20% xylene will definitely burn much hotter than stock 93 gasoline. this can be a bad thing as much as it is a good thing.

dunno bout carbon fouling. that can be dealt with solvents sucked into the intake manifold.

nitrous does wonders on blowing carbon off as well. nice small 15-20shot dry probably would clean your pistons/valves/head lickety split

Default I think you mean it COOLS them, hence being able to run more timing with higher octane...
