Default Valentine V1 Install in New A4 1.8t Avant

I just traded in my 2001 A4 Avant 1.8T QTS for a 2004 Atlas Gray A4 Avant 1.8T QT with 17" sport wheels, sirius satellite radio and cold weather package. I got a Valentine V1 for Christmas. Has anyone done a Hardwire install for their Valentine V1. Need advice on how to do it.

Another remote placement location

My remote placement was slightly more difficult than the wiring. I did not want the remote on top of the steering column. I used a 2 inch diameter sanding drum on the drill press to shape a piece of plastic to use as a base. This was to get the viewing angle I wanted. I attached the base and the V1 remote to the left side of the center console with some clear double stick tape.

I removed the lower dash panel and routed the wire between the center console and lower panel, passing over the steering wheel to the fuse box area. A small hole drilled next to the clips for the panel were used to tie wrap the wire to keep things tidy.

My wiring was similar to the one linked in the parent post. I grounded on the same fuse box screw and put the positive in the homelink fuse slot, using the fuse to hold the wire in place. As for the wire to the V1, I just used a piece of plastic to slide it under the liners. I started at the mirror, making sure to leave enough wire exposed, worked over to the corner, down the windshield, around the bottom of the A piller cover, between it and the dash, and to the fuse box. Other than the bend at the top of the windshield, which took a little pushing, the wire went into place very easily.

Just inside the top of the fuse box is a nice little flat spot. It made a good location for mounting the V1 power adapter. In case of future service needs, the ends of the V1 wire and V1 remote wire a easily accessible through the opening above the fuse box.

Overall, it was an easy install.
