Default Trivia...a new fun thing to do here!

OK, I'll start this off with an easy one: winner gets to pose the new question!
What language does the word "audi" originate from, what is its meaning, and why did August Horch choose it as a name for his car?

Hmmm almost 2 months, and no answer to this rather simple question?

Due to legal actions, August Horch had to change the name of his company "August Horch Automobil Werke Gmbh, Zwickau", and took the latin translation of "horch" is ... "AUDI" (in English: Listen!).

NEXT: what do the letters NSU stand for?

Regards,
Marc

NSU, is an abbreviation for Neckarslum,
the town where Christian Schmidt, and
Heinrich Stroll, moved their knitting
machine factory to in 1880. then, they
started producing bicycles. then in 1901,
motorcycles.

AUDI is the latin word for Horch.
August Horch founded his company "August Horch Automobil Werke Gmbh, Zwickau". Some years later he lost "his" company to other persons and so he founded an new company that called AUDI.

The letters NSU stands for "Neckarsulmer Sickmaschienen Union" that means Neckarsulms knittingmachine company. This company is founded by Christian Schmidt and Heinrich Stoll in 1873. Since 1892 the meaning of the letters changed into the short version of the city-name of the NSU headquater: Neckarsulm.
Often the people say Neckars-ulm, because they think Neckarsulm has something to do with the famouse city Ulm or New-Ulm. But thats not right. The name Neckarsulm comes from the two rivers Neckar and SUlm, that combined in Neckarsulm.

PS: Sorry for bad english....

When I was looking for parts for my Prinz, NSU was an acronym for "Non-Standard Unit." When I located and installed the part, the motto was "Nothing Stops Us." But when I bragged about my car to those who knew nothing of the brand (basically, every otehr American citizen), their first association was probably a diagnosis I've received from time to time, "Non-Specific Urethritis". Take your pick...
