No paradise by the dashboard light

My dash lights turn off when i turn the headlights on and i cant find a dimmer switch . Any suggestions ? Is there a dimmer?

My '85 5000 S has the dimmer switch on the right side of the dash (protruding knob) to turn, my '91 100 used the knob on the left side of the dash (by fuel guage) which has to be pushed in and turned I beleive.
