Default I didn't recieve a response on my question on how to remove the ignition lock...

however I soldiered-on and figured it out. Here is the procedure.

1. Pull steering wheel all the way forward
2. Remove the instrument cluster
3. Unplug the ignition switch
4. If automatic - remove the shiftlock cable (not needed for me)
5. Remove both under-steering-wheel panels
6. Pull leather steering wheel boot off to expose the steering column.
7. Remove the rubber molding around the area where you put the key in to the lock.
7. Drill out the plug that connects the lock to the steering column. (Mine had been done once already in '96 because of the date on the lock so there was just a screw for me and no drilling was required.)
8. Pull the lock out as far as you can and then spin it down.
9. Insert the key in to the lock and turn it to pull the steering wheel locking pin in to the ignition lock.
10. You can now fully pull the lock out of the steering column.

Note: If you did not have the key for the lock, this procedure may not be possible. It didn't seem like there was enough room to get the lock out if you weren't able to turn the key to pull the steering-wheel lock pin in to the ignition lock.

Default I was waiting for one...

I KNOW there are a number of posts about this- but when I search I either get dead links or more confused- PLUS it sounds like my 96 A6Q will be different than your 92...
I may soldier on too! search function didn't really come up totally dry.

Default Your 96 A6Q should be exactly the same. Msg me if you need any help.

Why do you need to replace the ignition lock, btw? Normally you just need to replace the switch that plugs in the back. I only needed to replace mine to make it match the rest of the locks on the car. I.E. carry only one key instead of two.

well, that takes care of part of my confusion. The ignition is hard to turn- so the part I need is just the electrical switch? and it plugs in? I'll attack it after a few other things. It's probably one of those things that loom large till I just do it and it's not so bad. BTW I have the bently- thanks for the help offer!

Default Take out the IC. You'll see the white ignition switch. Loosen the two set screws...

they are hidden under two red dots of paint. It will slide right off the back of the ignition lock. Replace and you're done.
