Default bumper reinforcement part needed for hitch installation? look familiar? (Hitched ones please look :)

I'm still trying to make sure a euro allroad hitch will work for our N.A. allroads and find out what is required.

I have been told that not only is the hitch installation kit required (euro part # 4Z7 092 156) but also a "bumper reinforcement" part must be obtained from audi (euro part # 4Z7 807 313 A) this part is $253.

I have found a picture of the part online:

Was anything like this required for the US allroad hitch? (I didn't see anything like this in Gragravar's hitch install post)

Does anyone have any idea why it would be required?

You can see from the second to last page in this audi doc that it mounts inbetween the bumper and the hitch.

It seems weird to me that this part is required yet it doesn't come with the hitch!?

The bosal catalog also called out that this part is required for thier hitch...

This puts the cost of everything shipped to over $1100.

So... I'm kinda hoping that this part is not really required and it is some after thought safety feature required in some contries. If the US allroads don't have it, I don't need it... That is why I am posting...

I was just about to order a hitch without this part...

TIA

Default I believe it should already be under your bumper cover.

Take off plastic bumper fascia, remove "reinforcement", install hitch, replace "reinforcement" over hitch(which Gragravar did not show in his pictures), and replace plastic bumper fascia.

Default I thought the reinforcement part removed while installing a US hitch was not reinstalled?

If you look at the pictures at the end of this file, a reinforcement part under the bumper is removed and discarded. Then the hitch is installed, then this *new* separate reinforcement part is installed over the hitch...

I don't know if the US hitches had something similar... Or if indeed the reinforcement part was reinstalled for the US hitches...

Did you install your hitch?

Default specifically

the part you are talking about is on page 13 of the doc below, it comes out. you can see it on the floor on pages 17-18 and it does go back on over the top of the hitch during the re-assembly

Default hmm. Thanks for the reply. Maybe the euro hitch is a bit different?

Here is the Euro one:

Here is the North American one:

I don't see why a different reinforcement part would be required, but according to the parts list on the allroadFAQ, MY 01-03 have "4Z7 807 313 B" under the bumper...

I was told I need to order "4Z7 807 313 A"

so maybe the euro hitch is just a bit different and it really is required.... ?

Plus if you look at the euro install doc in my original post, they remove the one on the car and trash it, then buy a new one and put that on. grrrrrrr...

Thanks for your help though...

I'm tempted to try it with out ordering this part, but that might be a bad idea...

Default Looks like the euro bumper does not have the bumber shocks and has some plastic reinforcement that

throw away. The US model has two shocks that you dispose of and the reinforcement that you reuse.
