trailer hitch receiver

I searched the forum and confirmed that the Audi hitch is a robust and well engineered unit. I wouldn't want anything else, on basic principles.

What I didn't see is whether it has a standard 2 inch receiver. The photos make it appear to have only a ball-tongue. Could someone confirm?

Vast overkill: I'm not going to tow anything. I need to mount a bike rack. The roof box precludes more than one bike up there (not to mention low overhangs that you need to forget about only once...!). Bike racks have square tubes that slide into the receiver in lieu of a ball-tongue.

but people have been using an adaptor to a 2" receiver. These adaptors are custom made by a hitch shop since they have to be at a 90 degree angle to the factory hitch.

I plan on doing this for my bike rack if and when I decide to get off my butt.

While having a rear-facing receiver adapter is a PITA, a hitch mounted bike rack works better for me than on the roof.

* Don't have to detach front wheel (kids bikes don't have quick release)

* Less wind noise (probably better mpg)

* No chance of forgetting that the bikes are on the roof when kids are shrieking in the car and all you want to do is park in the garage and get the __ out of there!

time for a lunchtime ride.

Breaking point of the test unit tested to >2500 lbs. The guy who welded it up for me told me that if I broke it using it for any of the uses I outlined (a bike rack or for a storage carrier) he would create a version (at no cost) that goes thru the top and bottom and is welded at all 4 points.
