Default Bugatti Veron

Friday, August 26, 2005
Idaho Springs, Colorado

Driving from Nederland to Idaho Springs this morning saw some pretty cool stuff. First, Tyler Hamilton riding solo on the Peak to Peak Highway just south of Nederland. Passed him and saw the Phonak outfit and thought, hey that looks just like Tyler Hamilton. It was.

Then saw two Bugatti Veron test mules on the Mt. Evans road. Mt. Evans Scenic Byway is America's highest paved automobile road. They were running laps from 10,600 feet to the summit parking area at 14,130 feet. There were four guys from Stuttgart with a semi car carrier up there. They were surprisingly friendly and offered up some info about the car. 8L V8 four-turbo putting out about 1000 hp. Unfortunately, they would not offer up a test drive even after I showed them my Allroad and vowed allegiance to their employer Volkswagen AG. I tried!

Saw some pretty cool boulders also.

Default 8L V8? Methinks you mean 8L W16.

Default Very cool. I love that stretch of road...

Man doing sprints to the top of Mt Evans in one of those on those hairpin no guardrail turns. Scary, but cool. Not to mention the occasional mountain goat that gets in your way. I used to take trips up there all the time when I lived out that way.

I love Colorado. Wish I could live there.

Default Peak to Peak has some geat memorys, and one sad.

Glad to see that Bug/audi is using it for their hi-alt profiles testing. It was a great hi-alt training ride even in my cycling days (late 70s thru mid 80s), also a wonderful moto ride. The sad: my ex-wife was killed doing the Peak to Peak ride in 1999. She was a great gal, miss her alot.
