Default S4, new iPod, no cd changer, can I plug in direct?

Hi everyone,

I have been looking at the archives for answers to my questions, but I'm still not sure about a solution.

I have a '02 S4 sedan with Bose but no cd changer.

Here are my questions:

1) It is my understanding that the cd changer signals to the stereo that there is a cd in it. Without a changer, there is no such signal and as a result I cannot just plug in the iPod there, push the cd changer button on the stereo, and expect it to work.
a. Is this true?
b. Are there any non-invasive techniques for tricking the deck (i.e. no wire cutting soldering, etc) so that it works?

2). Assuming we solve this issue, is it then simply a matter of stringing a wire from the front to the back (find a space created by the seatback, hide the wire somehow, and plug into the iPod up front)?

3). Alternatively, is there a way to plug directly into the rear of the deck, possibly with some sort of cable that sticks out of the ash tray, glove box, bottom of dash (by feet), or something else non-invasive?

4) Any other issues I should be aware of?

If it doesn't work, I suppose I'll get some sort of tape adapter, but those suffer for sound quality (reduced frequency response). FM transmitters suffer even more, from what I read.

I'd really appreciate any feedback, or links to resources on this matter; I think that of the Audi Forum threads I've seen, none has given me a definitive answer. You'll be doing me and my baby here a huge favor!

Thanks!!

Carlos

Default Yep! You need a Blitzsafe adapter...

Blitzsafe will have the adapter, but you'll have to call them and tell them what it's for (A4 CD Changer interface cable). That'll give you a set of RCA inputs and the adapter will fool the headunit into thinking the changer is connected. Shoot me an email for some more details.

Default you need this adapter from autotoys.com

3. Look at this page also. This is set up for those that have a CD changer, but the basic wiring is the same. I used the adapter, and also wired into the CD Changer cable coming into the head unit. This page shows a relay in place, but you do not need to do this. With the BlizSafe adapter, this would send the signal to the head unit. You can then wire into the cable to get the inputs to the head unit.
Also, you could tap into the power cable, cut a FireWire cable, and supply power to the iPod.

I used the Blitzsafe adapter with my iPod in an '01 Audi A4 Avant but the sound is less than great. The volume is mismatched and the sound is closer to cassette quality than to CD quality. Anybody else have this experience? Is the tuner option better?
Thanks

I have recently purchased an ipod, and am experiencing interference with the Audi Concert sound system when trying to connect via a transmitter. I do not have a cd changer, but would like to know if I can connect ipod directly into back of sound system

Did you ever figure that out.How to fool the deck to make it think there is a cdchanger so we can plug into the back with an Ipod without the blitzsafe cable?
