Default dead a/c

picked up my a3 from the dealer after its 15K scheduled maintenance. later that day, took her out, turned on the A/C and got nothing but normal-warm air. switching between Econ and A/C did not make a difference, same warm air came out. I called the dealer, he was perplexed since they didn't touch the A/C. I have to bring it in on Monday for them to take a look.

Anybody have any thoughts on this? Is it possible they did something by mistake during the 15K maintenance to cause this? Or just a wierd coincidence? Well hopefully it can fixed quickly.

Default Couple of things come to mind

that happend to my B5 A4 back in the day...I couldn't get the AC to engage unless I hit anything above 3000rpm and I had to maintain >2000rpm to keep it on. It just blew out ambient temp air otherwise. I was told it could've occured as a result of

1) Low refrigerant levels - the powertrain control module will disengage the compressor to prevent internal damage

2) Defective electrically activated clutch - this mechanically links the compressor to a drive belt when the A/C is turned on

Either way, they replaced the clutch and added refrigerant, so I'm not sure what the ultimate cause was. Hope all works out well for you

Default Re: dead a/c

Had a similar problem. It started with my fans running on after the engine shut off(cold/hot).....forever, unless you disconnected the battery. It wouldn't throw a CEL-then it would but before I could check it with a friend's VAG tool it would clear-this went on for over two months. The dealer had the car for a few days and couldn't figure it out. Finally my ac stopped working(on/off) along with the fan thing and I finally got a CEL that wouldn't clear-"high values to temperature circut"-P0118". They replaced the module which controlds the HVAC and engine cooling-so I was told. No issues since fixed. Only issue in 25k mi.

15K miles and a dead compressor, kinda sucks.
