Hi VW/Audi lovers,
This is my first post and wanted to get some info on the 20V 1999 Audi A3 Turbo 150HP engine. I purchased this about a month ago with 65,000kms on the clock. Does anyone know what boost it's running in stock mode for all gears? I'm located in Australia and the dealer told me it was running 3psi for first 2 gears, then 7psi after that. Sounds awefully low compared to other turbo's. I haven't installed my boost gauge yet to check this and probably won't be able to until next weekend. Any info would be great. I will also be getting APR 1-Bar chip installed in the near future and was told that if i added a TB exhaust, the chip will adapt to the change and change the parameters without getting reprogrammed. Is this true with the APR chip or are they pulling my middle leg? Nice forum. Found it very informative and helpful. Audi A3 Turbo Ming Blue STOCK - not for long! |

Hi.
I had the same car until 3 months ago. They are fairly low boost, I think though that 3psi is a little low probably nearer the 5-7 as standard. I did have a 5 hour free Revo trial. took the car upto about 200bhp. It was amasing. the performance of the car was fantastic. I would certainly recomend it as it takes the car to a new level. Totally transforms the car. |

Welcome AudiA3Turbo!
Where are you located? There's a bunch of A3Ters in Sydney and quite a few in Brisbane floating around these forums.... less so in Melbourne although there are a couple of regulars. Yes, the A3T runs in a low pressure way but there are lots of easy upgrade options and it sounds like you're already doing your research. I'm in Sydney BTW. Ken |

Hi Ken,
Nice interior by the way. When you said there are "easy upgrade options" what did you mean? I'm looking to purchase the APR chip in Brookvale by European Autotech but the 2k pricetag is getting my miss's a little pee'd off. You chipped? and if you are, whats it like? I want to installed some cheap pipes to get colder air into my airbox but i'm not sure how to do it. Have you installed CAI yet and if so, let me know how you did it. Whats your email address by the way? |

Hi again,
Thanks re the interior.... fortunately for me, the guy who bought the car new spent heaps on options and accessories so I get to benefit! I'm running mechanically stock, but there's quite a few guys in Club Audi NSW and on the ozaudi forum who have done a range of mods from simple ECU upgrades through to K04 turbos, coilovers etc. I know any of them would be happy for you to take a ride in their wheels. Alternatively, the flash upgrade providers (ie. those who upgrade the ECU programs using software uploads rather than fitting a physical chip) also offer trials which revert back to the original software after X hours. email is <removed to minimise spam> Keep your eyes on the Audiworld Australia forum too, http://forums.audiworld.com/oz/, and the official Club Audi site http://www.audi.com.au/content/FrontPage.aspx?s=1204 as get togethers are normally posted there rather than under the specific model forums. Hi Ken,
Thanks alot for the links. I'll take a good read when i get a chance. When you said "flash upgrade providers", do you know any contact details on where you can get this done. I just want to feel the difference from an ECU upgrade before paying the hefty 2k price. Have you been in an Audi with ECU upgrade? Worth it? Let me know when the next Audi club meet is. I would love to come along and meet all the audi lovers like myself.

From what I've seen, APR are the most popular of the "flash upgrade providers" in Australia, possibly because they were the first to bring it to market.
Revo and GIAC both also offer the same software only upgrades. I think Revo is Adelaide based, GIAC is Melbourne based with a Sydney outlet. You'll need to do some research though as I can only tell you what I hear second hand and haven't done a lot of snooping. |
