It depends on where you are.
Here in Brazil we can reach almost 330 bh changing the OE turbo to a KKK .16, exaust system, remaping the ECU and some other changes to reach 280 bh on dyno. My previous A3 1.8T was tuned with 220 bh on dyno whith OE muffler, but with a bigger turbo, K&N filter, chip, sparks, etc. |

sell the a3 and buy an RS4, methinks it will be cheaper in the long run, to get an s3 to this sort of figure (with some suspension and brake changes to suit) costs as much as another s3.
Check out AMD's web site for the one they upgraded to similar specs. plus 350 hp and front wheel drive will be interesting in terms of torque steer to say the least. |

I tested an A4 1.8T FWD tuned to 270 hp. Torque steer was horrible.
Yes, you probably should buy a car designed around more power than the A3.

Jabbasport can do a 350-400 Bhp job for around the 3.5K (GBP) mark, but you can't even lay 200 hp down effectively enough in the FWD A3. An A3 tuned to S3 specs cannot beat the S3 off the line purely due to traction, as RichA3Turbo will confirm. To lay 200+ hoursepower down in the A3 chassis you need to have quattro, but check out the below link detailing Jabbasports mods on a Golf 1.8T....and as you'll note it definately needs the brakes upgrading. But I would still say that the minimum car to start with is a Quattro preferably with a six speed box, but this can be fitted later.[list][*]http://www.jabbasport.com/Audi/Jabbachips/Press_Release/performance_vw_May_02_p1/performance_vw_may_02_p1.html

out of interest, I take it you couldn't fit 4WD to a non quattro body? (apart from obvious cost) I've looked at the ETKA and seen the different ways the rear suspension is attached, and how the bodies of the cars have different chassis codes too. From that I assume that the rear of the car doesn't have the choice of mounting points for the rear subframe depending on what application it is to be used for.

Indeed i can! I've got 192bhp and it is very difficult to get a *fast* start. My best 0-60ft was 2.6seconds... and an S3 was 1.99 or something.
I wouldnt waste your money on more power... Get quattro first. Rich
