I found your posts on it last night...but events conspired to keep me from getting
my torx set out to investigate. Perhaps I will try today at lunch time.

How to fix the glove box details.
Pry off the right side dash cover and remove the plastic plate with 4 or 5 torx screws to get access to the right side glove box lock pin. The pin is on the door but engages into the side dash.
Push the pin and pull the glove box latch and it should drop open.
Take apart the door from the box, by undoing the torx screws in the box, remove the glove box latch to expose the lock pins and gear wheel, it should be broke of the stud.
Make a stud with a small screw to repair it.
Options are you can drill a hole on the side of the dash and put a small pin in there to unlock the box or put a piece of tape over the right side pin hole to stop it from engaging.
I'm repairing the gear on mine...
