Default Easy fix for the convertible top de-bonding problem

Here is my solution to the top de-bonding problem. It took me about 20 minutes to do the repair and cost about $30 for the materials (Velcro, pop rivets, washers, pop rivet tool).

The before picture with top material de-bonding and basically looking like crap.

I used "industrial strength" Velcro (hook side) that has the adhesive backing and placed it on the backside of the top material. The adhesive holds it in place for drilling and installing rivets.

Drilled a small hole that matched the rivet diameter through the top material and Velcro on each side of the Velcro.

Inserted the rivet with washers on both sides to prevent tearing. Used needle nose pliers to snug the washers against each other. The glue from the Velcro gets on the rivet shank and helps to keep the washers in place prior to popping the rivet.

Popped 1/8" rivets with washers on each side of the Velcro.

The complete repair.

Put it back in place under the lip of the plastic shroud and pressed the Velcro against the trunk backing. The material on the trunk backing works like the mating surface for the hook side of the Velcro. I pulled down on the material to test the repair and the Velcro held fast. Works like a charm!

Feel free to place this in a Fotki for future reference. I don't have one.

Default It's probably not near as difficult as the front Anti-Sway bushings.
