seriously, check right by the lever, its possible the cable became detached right there... if not , then you can get at the lever under the hood by removing the grill...
I warn you I did this on a car with front end damage, and didnt care how I got the grill off...

but will give you very easy access to the hood lock itself, alot cheaper than using a pry bar on the hood =) gives you an excuse to get a new grill

Get the front of the car up on ramps or jack stands. I used a big f-ing screwdriver / pry-bar (24") and went from underneath straight up to the release lever catch that the (hood release) wire ball attaches to. You will need to move a clip (with the prybar) that is obstructing your way to the lever. It also helps to have a friend with a flash light. Look at a friends A4 hood release mechanism to see what I am talking about regarding the clip and the path near the radiator the pry bar needs to go.
And remember you are upside down when moving the lever to release the hood. It goes toward the drivers side to release.

using something to reach the tabs and try to disconnect the tabs from the hood. Your grill will pop out and you can see the hood latch and cable. Pull hard as hell on it and it should unlatch it.
Then go down to the "stealer" and get a new cable for about $45 IIRC. |
