one is a standard 9 pin serial, the other is a usb. you have to get a slightly different version of VAG to use the usb version. also, if you have an old laptop, some of them didn't have the uart chip that was fast enough, but that's only on old stuff.

USB Vag-Coms should work with most win98 and up laptops w/ USB ports. The serial ones *should* work with any laptop with a serial port. I think some newer laptops don't come with serial ports on the back though. On newer laptops with serial ports, sometimes the port has to be configured correctly to work with Vag-Com. I haven't heard yet regarding the newer style USB connection. Ross Tech is one of few companies that I deal with who stubbornly refuse to support the Mac. You might check to see if they've updated their FAQ list on this.

I just got the shadetree prodiag, so far so good. i run the rosstech version on my wifes dell laptop when i need it, but having it on my palm is sure handy

using the serial cable and an adapter, running virtual PC. It was recent too (last 2-3 months or so). The USB is supposed to work too.
