After reading a few posts on here about replacing the side mirrors on the TT (hey, the search works sometimes!), I was convinced that I would be better off having the dealership's technicians remove them, as they apparently have a "special tool" that will pop them off.
So it was a big surprise to me when I stopped by the dealership this morning, and the tech. who came out was carrying no tools. He used his bare hands to tilt the mirror down (by reading the posts on here I thought they should've been tilted up, but whatever..) and pry them off with little difficutly!! Impressive. There were 2 wires per mirrors, for heating I'm assuming, so after reconnecting them to the new split mirrors, I popped them in fairly easy with a couple of "clicks": ![]() ![]() The question is, now they look somewhat off-angle, i.e. the driver-side mirror is pointing a little too much to the left (have to tilt it to the outside a lot) and the passenger-side one is the opposite (points a little too much in), compared to the stock ones. If you look carefully at the pictures above you can kind of see that, they were in the ideal driving position when I shot them. I tried to push on them as much as possible, but how many "clicks" should I have heard, per mirror? Thanks! -Marc

but firm pressure, they should all click into place.
You may need to remove them first, spray with a silicone spray on the white clips to ease them back into place.

For some reason, my 2001 180TTQC seems to have come with a driver's side Euro mirror (the only previous owner had no clue what I was talking about). I only had to buy the passenger side mirror to have a matched set.
They are cool once you get used to them...

using the little tab at the bottom, you have to tilt it up. my driver's side takes getting used to...while the passenger side i got used to right away. its definitely easier to change the mirrors when its warm out...since most plastics tend to get brittle in subzero weather.
you'll know if its in the slots...otherwise, it wouldn't grip it properly and feel like it'll come right out. one reason it seems like its not in correctly is because of the curvature of the outer part of the mirror...it actually bends too much and you tend to see the inside of the mirror housing.

completely seated...the inside part should be shoved in more...you look about 5'9" or so, which means it should look similar to my settings.
the tahoe drive should be fine...but personally, i would go with snow tires, no doubt...since there's usually snow in the parking lots, etc.
