Default Another TTDA Installed....

Hey guys. While on a brief visit home from London, I was able to install my TTDA. This is a great mod. Excellent quality.

The install was more than I bargained for, as it turns out that my engine bay is set up a little different than everyone else so far who has installed the TTDA. My TT is an early 2001 build. I have no ESP, the Audi Sport Steering Wheel, and larger rear-view mirror. But most importantly, I have the headlight ballast that is mounted to the car...not to the back of the headlight housing. Unfortunately this Ballast is mounted in the exact place where you would run the feed hose to the front of the car (for those with FMIC). After some fooling around, I was able to find a temporary location to mount the ballast out of the way. Later I will find a better way, but I didn't have much time this week since I was only home a few days.

I also opted not to cut the sheet metal, so I only ran one feed to the front grill and put the other in the wheel well behind the liner. You can see this in the pics.

Overall I am very happy with this mod. I didn't get to drive it too much, but it felt good. The car was running strong and the weather was unseasonably cold for Texas. I think my car is still adjusting to the changes. I'll have to keep an eye on it when I get back to Texas in the Spring.

The Modshack Rocks!

Default Behind Liner

You can also see where I relocated my horns...just to the right of the white PVC elbow.

Default 90 degree PVC elbow and a 3" diameter rubber expansion

...connector to draw air into the feed. These were parts found in the plumbing section at Home Depot.

Default Is there some kind of attachment at the end to keep water out?

Default Nope

Not sure how big the risk is. I rarely drive in bad weather, and I would hope that the filter would catch any water vapor that gets sucked up in during a rainy drive. I don't ever have to drive through deep water, and even if I did the airbox should draw air through the fender well feed if there is water blocking the front feed...since it would be the path of least resistance.

Anyone else with a TTDA (w/front feeds) have an issue with water?

Default It may not only be a factor of non-ESP cars...

There must have been a point at which Audi chose to attach the xenon ballast to the back of the light housing. It may or may not coincide with the introduction of ESP. We would need to check out some other cars to decide.

You just have to relocate it. Not a big deal, but anyone installing a TTDA with a similar setup to mine should be aware just so that they know what they are getting into.
