Default that's either an Airtech or Ltek's intake (same intake systems)

Ok now the stupid questions. What exactly is this doing?
I know I can hear it "breathing/sucking air during acceleration, thought this would be annoying but I'm starting to like it. I know it lets the engine breathe easier than stock, but is it forcing air in? Or just allowing it in quicker. And why no box? When do I need to change the filter, can I clean it, or do I have to change it.
Check out the other mods and let me know what you think.
Thanks.

Yes I know 300+ is very optimistic, after driving it a few days I would say 275-280 is more realistic. Would love to find out, but how?

Default it has a greater filtered surface area, that's the advantage.

however, the disadvantage is that it's sucking in hot engine air, thus effectively reducing horsepower after the car is warm.

the filter can be removed and cleaned. the manufacturer of the filter will sell recharger kits for them.

to find out your exact hp figure, you'll need an awd dyno.

Default OOO, OOO, I have that.

That is an EVOMS intake kit (incomplete) I am using this because it has an adapter plate that incorporates the stock cold air snorkel. The piece that is missing is the wrinkle finish cover. The cover encloses everything you see here and gives the illusion of having a stock air box (the dealer service writer didn't even notice it). This is louder then stock. After installing it I was disappointed by the intake noise. I tried putting the stock airbox back in, after one test drive with the stock airbox for comparison I have never regretted purchasing this kit. Prior to the kit my car would stop pulling hard at 5300 rpm, now it pulls strong all the way to redline!

Default It's an lltek.....see the snorkle fitting?.....>>>

It's probably not helping a lot other than flow improvements. You're sucking in lots of hot air out of the engine compartment which is effectively eliminating any gains. I started with this intake and did a lot of experimenting. Ultimately resulting in an insulated, force fed box for this system...you can see the genesis of it here:

OMG, man your car rocks! What kind of HP are you getting.
The custom air intake is gorgeous. Would love to go that route. It looks like you were in full production, how much?
Thanks for all the info, been looking at all your pics, great work!!

Default long term intake temp readings w/ open intake and fmic...

These data points were logged from 10 different runs at 80 mph cruising. Ambient temps range from 11*C to 31*C. I don't know what what relative humidity for the days were.

Here's what I found. Temperature difference between Ambient Temp vs. Intake Temps ranged from 4 to 7*C. There seems to be a linear relationship between Ambient and Intake Temps, with a range at different temperatures.

I also incorporated Steve's (TTschwings) pre and post intake modification tempertures on my chart. What we see is that his pre and post-instulate/TTDA temp fall within the range of intake temps vs. ambient temps.

So what does this mean.

Based on my runs, temperature differences in ambient vs. intake are similar between a short open funnel intake system AND a closed intake with manifold insulation.

The FMIC can keep your intake charge 5 - 7*C warmer than ambient air. (I don't have pre-fmic temp data. However according to Steve, the cooling effeciency it at about 93%).

I need more data plots to see the trend, however, as stated above, there appears to be a linear relationship between intake vs. ambient temps.

Well, here's the data plots:

It would seem to me that it is more important to cool the charge AFTER the turbo. Pre-turbo, it's more the volume of air that is important.

What would be interesting is to see STOCK IC and STOCK intake temp comparison. Also, I'd like more data on my car, as well as anyone else that wants to submit their information to me.
