Default Dieselgeek SS + Raffi Knob = pure shifting bliss :-)

On the other hand...unplowed roads + Boston drivers talking on cell phones = wishing I carried a gun in my car.

seriously though, I finally had my Dieselgeek SS installed this AM (thanks again to RilesTT for organizing the group buy)...and the combination of the Dieselgeek "original" shortshifter and one of Raffi's shift knobs makes a HUGE difference in the way the car feels. There is absolutely no more play or sloppiness in the shifter at all. very precise. I can't recommend this combo enough.

and to whomever was the previous owner of my TT...thanks for gluing the original shift knob onto the lever, YOU FARKING DOLT!

Default re: Raffi Knob...(edited)

It's not on the site. It's a "special" one. ;-) I haven't gotten my pictures developed yet, but it's the same as the one that BocaRatonTT has. here's the link to his pics.

the shiftknob alone made a big difference in shifting feel, since it sits slightly lower and weighs about 3 times as much as the stock knob. but add to that the Dieselgeek SS, and it's like night & day from stock.

Default mine was crazyglued on...

I've tried removing 2 other stock shiftknobs and they both just came right off, though one was on there pretty tightly. Mine, however...different story altogether...I had to use a wrench and a TON of elbow grease and destroy the thing to get it off.

I almost gave up after literally about 30 minutes worth of trying to get it to move without it budging at all. Finally, it made a "snap/crack" noise and turned about a quarter of an inch. At first I thought I might have broken something on the lever shaft...but at that point I figured if it was broken, I was going to have to remove the knob to replace it anyway, so I kept going. Even after the initial "snap/crack", I still had to use the wrench and it took me another good 5 minutes to get the thing off completely.

When I got it off, I could see this hard clear, plasticy stuff all around the bottom and inside the threads of the stock knob.

anywho...long story short...this definitely didn't come from Audi this way.

Default Mark do you have a 5 or 6 speed? Did you trash the shift pattern insert?>

If not I'd like to talk to you about buying it.

Default Re: DG install...

I would've done it myself but I live in an apartment and park in an outside lot...and the weather has been less than condusive for modding lately.

The shop I took it to installed it in about 40 minutes. I was the first TT they've done a shortshift install on, so that's why it took longer than the recommended 20 minute install it states on the DG website.

After they got it in, they did the adjustment that's called for in the instructions, then took it for a spin around the block. It didn't need any further adjustments after that. worked perfectly.

Default Rick...

...I have a 5-speed...but I think I want to keep the shift-pattern because I'm thinking about buying one of Raffi's "Grip" knobs in the future, and was thinking about trying to attach the stock shift pattern to the flat surface on the top of that knob. I'm not sure how, or if it can be done...but I wanted to try. Sorry I can't help you out.
