the install was really easy except taking the shift lever off the selector shaft. Some people recommend a terminal puller... but I got away using a c-clamp.
The dieselgeek kit also has the side-to-side lever reduction, so I can't comment on that, but the front/back install was very easy. I managed to drop the cap of the pin stud down in the car, but I luckily had one of those magnets on a stick to get it out. I don't think the ball on your shifter ('02+ has the pin) has anything to fall off of it.

I was a little reluctant to do this, because mine (stock) shifted and felt so good. I went with the DG Original, and I am not disappointed at all. Still smooth and precise, no notchiness or undo increase in force needed. Just shorter...:-)
