Default i want one, too!

but then i'd try to drive the car in the 8` temps again, and risk killing myself once more... i've gotta wait.

you have any issues getting the alignment of your shifter back to perfect?

Default A couple of questions.

Can you describe how the kit works? I looked at the B&M SS and I couldn't use it because I couldn't use my knob and boot with it. Also, how easy was the installation? Were the instructions pretty good? This is something I really want to do.

Default Instructions here Dave....>>

Looks like it just relocates some of the fulcrum points to shorted the throw. I'll be doing mine this weekend. The instructions on the Geek site are very complete. Check em out:

Default Jim moves the connection points for the cables

in a bit on the levers which attach to the tranny. This has the effect of shortening the throw, both l/r and f/b. It sounds like the kit you looked at installs at the shift lever - this one should be no problem for you.

Jim says 20 minutes, and he can probably do it that quickly, having done many. It took me about 1/2 hour, including adjustment.

Default Thanks...I may have to get one.

Did you get the special "race" version or just the standard SS?

Default I got the standard, it's cheaper...

as you get $50 back for returning the core parts.
They've put together their own replacements for the VAG parts, and market them as the "race" version - no core charge. The functional difference is that the "race" parts don't have the damper weight which the OEM parts have.

Theoretically, that allows faster shifting (without the same solid feel) but in reality the synchros determine how fast you can shift. You could also loose the weight from the OEM part with a hacksaw, if you thought there were an advantage.

Default Same as the neuspeed short shifter, just a welded up OE lever vs. Purpose built Neuspeed

Default Didn't you end up needing a pulley tool to do the Neuspeed?
