does that mean that the car won't run as well with 93 octane? Basically, you'd have to run 100 octane (at $5/gallon) to take full advantage of the programming?
Follow me on this for a second: If most of my driving is going to be using 93 octane wouldn't it make more sense to have the chip programmed for that octane since apparently from the discussion in the previous post below a chip cannot be programmed for a range of octanes. If instead you program it to 100 octane and run 93 you might not perform as well as a car that's programmed for 93 and is running 93 ? So, if that's the case (and I don't know that it is), it would make sense for MTM to program for 93 seeing that's what most of us (at least in the east) will be using. Right? Note: If I'm way off please don't be too harsh. |

you will do serious damage very quickly. Your point is valid and makes sense but IMHO the best of all worlds is to be able to switch between programs. AFAIK APR is the only tuner to offer such an option.

APR for example (and any other tuner) would tell you that you should not run a lower octane than the chip is tuned for, if you are running a 100 octane program and only put 93 in the tank, your car will not run well, it will pull timing.

due to the gas variances in the US. If you programmed the chip for 100 oct, and you put 93 in it, the ECU would pull back timing, you'll hear pinging and detonation and damage your engine.
93 would be ideal, especially for the east coasters, where we have good gas.

If you kept switching back and forth from say 93 to 100 and back. And you did this often. Could it potentially have an ill affect on your engine?
