Default Blue Mod

According to the article below, blue is the hot new color. Now, the red dashboards in our TT's are real cool, but I was wondering if anyone had tried changing it to another color, perhaps blue?

Of course, the red LED graphics on the trip computer and the clock and mileage gauges probably can't be changed (at least not easily), but I think at the very least, the red light under the ashtray could be changed. I'm not sure where the rest of the red glow comes from. Probably white lights behind red plastic gauges.
Also difficult to change, but possible.

I'm trying this not only because I like blue, but I have protonopia which is a kind of colorblindness which makes it difficult to see red.

I'm not talking about silly mods like the blue LEDs people put in their wiper fluid sprayers. Frankly I think thats kind of tacky. Just a different color lit interior.

Default Well the light under the ashtray is not LED so...

it probably uses a bulb similar to the kind in the side markers and glovebox. Those come in blue and cost about 3 bucks for 2.

Default The probable choice for red is that red is the only color light that does not affect night vision...

the pupils of the eyes do not dilate when exposed to red light and because of this ships at night have only red lights on in the bridge area to allow for undisturbed night vision.

Default Red LEDs are only in the Wilson TT gauge Pod. Changing the bulb would not fix

This red glow. The bulb is shining through a flat red lens on the bottom of the OE ash tray assembly

New VW's (bug's anyway) have blue dash lighting.

Default Virtually Impossible with the TT instrument cluster...

Well, maybe for most of us.
I would not even attempt it.
This re-work type proceedure is done very delicatley by women, using fine solder tips, and magnifying lenses.

These LED are SMDs (Surface Mount LED's)

They can only be modified and replaced by people that have an extreme amount of experience, modifiy SMD circuit boards.

Audi recommends that if a LED is out, the entire cluster be replaced.

Default Yes...I've heard this before too. BMW's lights are orange for the same reason.

Default amateur astronomers and star gazers use red flashlights when reading charts at night
